Stoichiometry is a difficult concept for students in chemistry. Suddenly we've combined all of the symbols and units of chemistry with the symbols of algebra (coefficients) and quite a bit of unit conversions. Small group work, some peer mentoring, is a good way to help students solidify their understanding. Answers are provided around the room for students to check periodically.

❤️ Happy Valentine's Day and American Heart Month ❤️
Biology II students just wrapped up their Cardiovascular System unit and their hearts are broken--no pun intended! On January 21st and 22nd, students dissected sheep hearts to examine and identify mammalian heart structures.
To kick off American Heart Month, on February 4th, students watched a LIVE broadcast of an open-heart surgery from Advocate Christ Medical Center and the Museum of Science and Industry. Students were able to ask questions to the surgery team and hear their responses in real time!

Jr High Scholastic Bowl won their 1st match against Hollis. They won in overtime 230/210. Great Job, Trojans!!

FFA members competed at Section 5 Proficiency Interviews tonight at Brimfield High School: Kenzie Stage 1st Goat Production, Cassidy Case 1st Equine Placement and Gavin Strom 1st in Diversified Crop Production! Can't wait to see how they do at Districts!

Today the junior high science students voluntarily participated in the annual "Heart Day" lab. Students were able to explore and compare the hearts from several different species native to Illinois. Thank you again to all the hunters who donated our specimens back in the fall!

Should cell phones be allowed in classrooms? I say yes, IF they are used for educational purposes. Today sophomore Lia Huslander captured this image of the visible light spectrum. This shows far more detail than the human eye could see in the lab. Students who did this were fascinated. That's a scientific win for technology usage. - Mr. Hollis

Congratulations on a great Senior Night win! It was great to see such a great crowd to celebrate all of our winter sports senior participants. We wish these seniors the best of luck for the rest of the season.
